Read Aloud Licence Trwydded Darllen yn Uchel Read Aloud Licence The experience of being read to has a profound effect on a child and their development. Not only does being read to support literacy and oracy, but it creates strong relationships with the adults in the child’s life, and helps to promote a life-long love of reading. CLA’s Read Aloud Licence permits members of school staff to record readings from books, and to share these recordings with pupils and their family and carers via the school’s intranet. It is designed to meet an articulated demand from educators to be able to do this legally, as well as clarify the current situation where such activity is not permitted under current exceptions to copyright. With effect from October 2023, the Welsh Local Government Association has purchased the licence on behalf of all state-funded schools in Wales; and CLA is hoping that the Licence will be made available to all other UK state-funded schools through negotiations with the relevant government bodies.
