Law Firms and Barristers' Chambers

We make using copyright content simple for law firms. Look at the benefits offered by these licences which are available exclusively to the legal sector.

CLA Law Licence

Covers copying from digital and print books, magazines, journals and websites

This licence provides annual blanket cover for copying from print and digital publications so you don’t have to seek permissions from copyright owners each time you copy.

  • Make photocopies and scans from books, journals and law reports
  • Make copies from digital publications
  • Send copies of reports and articles to colleagues in your firm in the UK and overseas
  • Send copies to clients, barristers, advisers, judicial staff and more on matters of legal proceedings
  • Store digital copies on an Intranet for all employees to access

Although the licence will cover any employee, the fee that you pay is based on the number of your 'Professional Employees'* only.

Rate card from October 2015

For firms with 1-50 employees

Firms employing up to 50 employees are subject to special flat annual rates, based on total employees rather than Professional Employees.

The annual fee for a firm with 1-10 total employees is £161.60 + VAT
The annual fee for a firm with 11-50 total employees is £495.00 + VAT

For firms with 51 or more employees

Professional Employee rate Minimum fee
£36.25 + VAT £495.00 + VAT per licence

For example, if you have 100 total employees and 20 of those are identified as Professional Employees, the annual fee for the Digital Pharmaceutical Licence would be 20 x £36.25 = £725.00 + VAT.

*NB: For the purposes of the fee calculation 'Professional Employee' is defined as: ‘a partner in, officer or employee of, the Licensee who is a solicitor of the Supreme Court, a barrister called to the English Bar or a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (or who holds an equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction) a qualified accountant and all others holding equivalent professional qualifications ordinarily working in the United Kingdom'
