NLA Media Access Schools Licence

Covers copying from print and digital newspapers


The licence provides annual blanket permissions to copy and reuse content from print and digital newspaper publications.

  • Make paper and digital copies of print newspaper cuttings
  • Make paper and digital copies of digital newspaper cuttings
  • Share copies of newspaper cuttings with pupils, parents, staff and school governors

CLA acts as exclusive agent for all of NLA’s UK education licensing. In most cases, NLA licences are held or administered by representative bodies that act as agents between CLA and the schools. Details of those arrangements are shown below:

State maintained schools and academies in England All schools in this sector are covered under a national agreement with the Department of Education
State maintained schools in Wales, Scotland and the Channel Islands Cover can be arranged via your local authority. Ask us for more information
State schools in Northern Ireland All schools in this sector are covered under  a national agreement with the Education Authority 
Independent schools

Independent schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland should contact IAPS to arrange cover

Independent schools in Scotland should contact SCIS to arrange cover

 

Pricing from April 2017:

Schools with up to 750 pupils - £51.11 plus VAT
Schools with 751 or more pupils - £76.66 plus VAT

Using Newspapers in Schools

The Newspapers for Schools 'News Library' database from NLA allows teachers and students to find newspaper articles as a PDF cutting or full page exactly as it was printed. It contains over 35 million newspaper articles from over 140 UK national and regional newspaper titles, from 2006 to present day.
