Media Monitoring Organisation and Media Intelligence Licence FAQ's

Details of the publications and websites covered by the CLA MMO Licence can be found by using Check Permissions on the CLA website. CLA will also notify MMO Licensees via email of the websites covered by the CLA MMO Licence on a monthly basis.

Put simply, this is a link to an article on a publisher's website. When it is provided to a client, it should be accompanied by a headline and/or text summary of an extract from that item of no more than 256 characters.

The detailed obligations are set out in the MMO licence T&Cs, but broadly, they are as follows:
  • The licensed MMO must provide a quarterly report to CLA, which includes information on client content usage and contact details
  • The licensed MMO must inform clients of the need for a CLA Licence
  • The licensed MMO must not provide content to clients who do not hold an appropriate CLA licence
The following statement can be used for material provided to clients to advise them on the conditions of supply: This coverage is reproduced by [your company’s name] under licence from the Copyright Licensing Agency Ltd (CLA). Further copying, including accessing a digital copy more than once, the printing of more than one single paper copy or forwarding extracts of corresponding copyright content, is not permitted except under licence from CLA (cla.co.uk) or other authority.
If your client clicks or accesses a PDF more than once (whether of print or web clippings),, that client will need a CLA Licence. There are a number of different variables that will inform the sort of licence the client requires and its associated cost. We would encourage MMOs to suggest their clients contact CLA directly with any questions relating to their licence.
