13:00 Welcome
13:05 Creative Arts in Further Education 2025 (Emma Cracknell, Association of Colleges)

In this session we will look at the Creative Arts in FE programme, showcasing previous entries and giving information about how you can take part in the 2025 edition.

The programme encourages students enrolled at FE colleges to creatively respond to a brief, with entries being reviewed by an experienced editing panel and showcased in an online anthology and gallery. Selected entries will also be showcased via social media and at the AoC Annual Conference in November 2025.

13:35 An AI Treasure Hunt with Windsor Forest (Roddy Peters, Windsor Forest College Group)

Fresh from the successes of launching ‘Winnie’, the first Private AI in Further Education, hear how Windsor Forest Colleges Group are now using AI in inventive ways to support teaching, learning, and assessment. From lightening the workload and building tech confidence, to modelling how to use AI with students, hear what golden nuggets have been discovered: and what’s next.

14:00 University of Birmingham: A Pragmatic Approach to Supporting AI literacy for Staff and Students (Alison Gibson & Stephen Griffin, University of Birmingham)

This talk will cover the pragmatic approach taken by the University of Birmingham to support AI literacy for staff and students. After setting the context in which this support was created, we will cover the resources developed for staff, including an emphasis on integrating skill development alongside university guidance. We will then outline how the co-creation of support materials with students strengthened the resources, ensuring the student voice was central to the conversation. At the heart of both staff and student support is a pragmatic approach that refuses to be drawn into either the hype or the doomsaying about this new technology, instead focusing on the skills and understanding required by both staff and students to successfully navigate their way with AI.

14:30 TeacherMatic (Peter Kilcoyne, TeacherMatic)

TeacherMatic – saving time, improving well-being, and enhancing teaching, learning and assessment through AI. In this session Peter will give an overview of how AI can be used to reduce the workload of educators in planning, content creating, assessment and feedback. The session will include a demonstration of how TeacherMatic is benefiting over 50,000 educators with a range of intuitive tools that have been co-designed with practitioners.

15:30 CLA and the Education Licence: key facts & updates (Louise Auckland, CLA)

Louise will give an overview of how the CLA licence supports staff in the FE sector and will be providing updates on recent developments and future plans.

15:45 CLA’s Copyright in the Workplace and the Copyright Companion (Clair Gordon, CLA)

Clair will be introducing CLA’s Copyright in the Workplace and the Copyright Companion, which aim to foster a deeper understanding of copyright and responsible content use, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about content reuse in the workplace. Whilst this course is only available for business licence customers at this stage, CLA plan to develop and build courses for other sectors, Further Education included.

15:55 Digital Content Store (DCS) – an introduction (Imogen Wyllie, CLA)

In this session, Imogen will look at the benefits and key features of the DCS, with a view to potentially extending it into the FE sector in future.

Alison Gibson & Stephen Griffin: University of Birmingham

I am part of the Digital Education leadership team and am responsible for building relationships both across the Institution and with external companies, particularly those that supply our core institutional tools. I have particular responsibilities for our priorities around supporting assessment and feedback development, our CPD offerings both internally and externally, and supporting AI literacy for staff.

I am currently leading the Digital Education Assessment Team, responsible for supporting institutional projects such as the creation and rollout of assessment templates that address generative AI use and improving the digital exam experience for staff and students.

I also work with the College of Social Science as Head of Digital Education, supporting the College with their digital education ambitions. My team and I offer expert advice and guidance on best practice in the use of digital tools for teaching and learning, and work with academics and professional services staff to improve the digital education offering across the College.

Stephen Griffin, Academic Skills Advisor, University of Birmingham

Stephen Griffin is an Academic Skills Advisor at the University of Birmingham, where he supports students in developing essential academic and study skills to succeed in higher education. He is currently undertaking a PhD exploring student perceptions of authorship, autonomy, and human-AI collaboration.

Stephen has contributed to university-wide guidance on AI usage, helping both students and staff navigate the evolving landscape of AI-enhanced learning.
