CLA supports creative writing in FE: Developing student voice through the written word

Creative Writing in FE 2023: Developing Student Voice through creativity

CLA is thrilled to sponsor this Association of Colleges initiative, which encourages all members of the college community to create.

Launching on World Book and Copyright Day, the AoC Creative Writing Project invites colleges to inspire and enrich learners with an open programme of Creative Writing. With support materials designed by the English and Media Centre (EMC), colleges can deliver the project however they wish, but with one shared intention: to amplify the student voice.

At the launch event on Thursday, practitioners came together to explore the remit of the project, and even undertake a little creative writing of their own. Ably led by Andrew McCallum of EMC, attendees penned the first lines of novels in only five minutes. As Andrew highlighted, writing is a process, not a form, and it starts with ideas, formed through dialogue, sharing, and reflection. With learners confronting post-pandemic and cost-of-living pressures, CLA is confident that the chance to collaborate and create will offer a vital outlet to college community members.

Julie Murray, Education Account Manager at CLA says:

“This project speaks to CLA, being as it’s centered around the written word and the work of the author – works which our licenses cover. That’s why we’re so delighted to support this project because it nurtures and supports the process of creative writing. But the fact that it’s open to all college members, not just those on English courses, is even better. We value authors’ works, we know our licensees do, and that will extend to the learners who undertake this project – they will know that their words are valuable and valued.”
