London, UK – June 20, 2023

CLA, UK government-regulated collective licensing body representing authors, publishers, and visual artists, is pleased to announce the appointment of Serena Dederding as General Counsel. With her substantial background in publishing, digital transformation, and commercial law, Dederding brings a wealth of knowledge to CLA as it navigates the evolving content landscape disrupted by AI-generated content.

The appointment of Serena Dederding is a significant hire for CLA as it continues to pursue fair value for creators and rightsholders when their content is used by others. This comes at a critical time where AI-generated content presents both challenges and opportunities for the creative industries, companies, and governments alike.

Mat Pfleger, CLA CEO welcoming the appointment, commented:

“I am delighted to welcome Serena to the CLA team. Serena’s extensive experience across consumer, technology and publishing industries will be of enormous value to CLA as we continue to support innovation and enable organisations of all sizes to share content, accelerate learning, collaborate, and Copy, Right.”

Serena Dederding added:

“I am delighted to be joining the CLA at a time of transformational change in our digital landscape, particularly with the evolution of AI. I look forward to working with the CLA team, our members and government stakeholders to help ensure fair treatment of rights holders and creators wherever their works are used.”
