Renewed agreement ensures copyright compliance across Northern Ireland schools

State schools across Northern Ireland are set to benefit from significant cost savings and continued permission to reuse content from millions of educational resources, following the renewal of a five-year copyright licensing agreement between the Education Authority Northern Ireland (EANI) and the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA).

The agreement, now extended until 2030, ensures that all state-maintained schools can legally copy and share a wide range of published content, including books, journals, and digital materials. This not only supports curriculum delivery and literacy outcomes but also reduces administrative overheads for schools.

James Massey, Development Manager for Schools at CLA, added:

“CLA has had strong links with education bodies across the UK. We’re pleased to renew this important partnership with EANI, which helps ensure that teachers have the tools they need to deliver high-quality lessons while protecting the rights of publishers and authors.”

This centrally funded licence is designed to serve the specific needs of Northern Ireland’s education sector, enabling educators to share valuable learning content in a legally compliant and cost-effective way.

The renewed partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting teaching and learning while delivering long-term value to schools across the region.
