In April, following consultation with our Members and publishers, we announced temporary support for higher education institutions by extending some key terms of the higher education licence to allow greater access to learning resources. This unprecedented initiative included relaxing ownership requirements and increasing copying limits from 10% to 30% and was widely welcomed by the sector and by Government.
These temporary terms ended on 30 June when the licence reverted to the standard terms.
Since this date we have received requests from CNAC and some HEIs for an extension to these terms until the end of December 2020.
CLA and its Members are very sympathetic to the ongoing challenges of the health crisis and its impact upon Universities and their students. We are also acutely aware of the challenges facing publishers, visual artists, writers and the broader creative industries in this time of economic uncertainty.
We are pleased to advise that CLA and its Members are now undertaking a further consultation with rightsholders on this request. Once this consultation is complete, we will re-engage with CNAC to discuss the outcome and any next steps.
