The DCS has reached the 5 million student downloads milestone!

14th February 2019

In less than a year after reaching 100 users, we’re happy to report that the Digital Content Store (DCS) has now had 5 million student downloads to date. This level of student engagement highlights the benefits that the DCS is bringing to campuses across the country, as staff and students have easy access to content to help with academic study.

Since its introduction in 2016, the system has been widely adopted by our HE licensees, with 110 Higher Education Institutions signed up to date.

The DCS currently has over 241,827 items of content and over 229,884 active links, making it one of the leading sources of content on campus. Furthermore, new reading list integrations not only mean that students have quick and easy access to content, but that HE librarians are able to create more streamlined and efficient workflows across their systems. We’ve also heard from recent adopters of the DCS, that the system has been beneficial in helping library services engage the wider institution in copyright and become aware of the digital and licensed material the library has on offer.

The DCS is in continuous development and has recently added new features to the Academic Request Form and integrations with the Koha and Capita Alto Library Management Systems.

It’s great to see that the DCS continues to see a positive response from our HE Licence holders, and that it continues to receive increasing levels of engagement from staff and students alike. We look forward to another year of developments and upgrades, which you can keep up to date with through our Webinar Programme and by subscribing to the DCS newsletter.

About the DCS

The DCS is an optional innovative rights, technology and content platform for Higher Education developed by CLA together with HEIs, publishers and technology partners. The platform is part of the CLA Higher Education Licence.

The DCS is, at its core, a searchable repository of PDF extracts created by HEIs and a workflow management tool. When extracts are digitised by HEIs under the CLA Licence, they are uploaded directly to the DCS. Once an extract is uploaded and assigned to a course, students can access the extract via a secure link to the content held in the DCS.
