If your Media Monitoring Service supplies you with curated links and alerts to content on publisher websites instead of press cuttings, you will need to add a Web Media Monitoring Licence (WMML) extension to your Basic Licence (stand-alone options are available to anyone without a Basic Licence). Whilst it is fine to share a link that you have found searching the Internet, links and alerts from an MMS give you access to online content from a 3rd party, and the WMML is the only Licence that allows you to receive this.
The only licence that covers you to share externally – to your public facing sites and feeds for instance – is the Corporate Website Republishing Licence. All other licences and add-ons cover internal copying. Please enquire directly for information on the Corporate Website Republishing Licence.
You will be asked about your copying needs when you set up your licence, and also at each annual renewal. This is your opportunity to update your staff and student headcount, and/or your turnover, which will determine your Basic Licence fee for the year. You can also advise on any other changes about your newspaper copying needs. If you include your media monitoring activities – in short, any copying from newspapers for internal non-teaching activities- then the Media Monitoring Service (MMS) you subscribe to will report usage and user numbers to CLA each year. We will use these figures to calculate your renewal fee for this part of your Licence. Outside of this, there is no need to track and report usage.
When you sign up to an MMS to receive clippings and links, that is covering the delivery service. In order to access the content delivered, and share it more widely, an NLA Licence is required.
Both print and digital formats are covered, so you can photocopy and scan but also copy and paste or screengrab from opted in titles.
The licences and add-ons are designed to make licensing flexible and bespoke for your needs. Depending on the kind of activity your institution/organisation wants to do, you can opt for different combinations of cover.
